What the Parents Say
Tonya Baggett, Parent and feedback after 2017 Power Hour Series
"Count your child lucky if you can have a child skate with Cathy and her team of coaches! My daughter was a little hesitant for her first Cathy’s Power Hour because she was on the younger side but within minutes of the first class the “big” kids were fist bumping her and coaches knocking her on the helmet; filling her bucket. Equal to the inviting environment, the coaches took great interest in each child during each drill. All of the nine coaches were 100% engaged in teaching consistently throughout the entirety of the ice time. During a particular drill, they recognized that my daughter had not heard a specific detail in a drill, took her aside for a one-on-one, than returned her to the group once she got it. I have yet to see this happen time after time in other camps. Thank you Cathy’s Power Hour for creating a platform for all athletes to see and demonstrate sportsmanship towards others alongside developing their skating skills."

"Cathy has been instrumental in my son Spencer's development. In less than a year he went form not being able to do crossovers and skate backwards to being on the Cougars Bantam A team. It has been great to see how he has progressed over the year. I can't believe how well he is doing in such a short amount of time. Keep in mind he has grown from 5'9" to over 6" in the same timeframe. He looks forward every week to the hard work and some pain. His running joke is that you don't know pain until you have taken a private with Cathy."

"We are so fortunate to have Cathy teach our son, Alex, how to skate well. He's been taking lessons from Cathy for about 9 years. Initially, he skated as if his feet were shuffling along invisible railroad tracks on the ice. The best advice we were given when he was a Mite was to invest in skating lessons and the best in Northern California is Cathy Andrade and her team.
Cathy's expertise has been invaluable in teaching our son proper skating techniques (e.g. body position, deep edges, long strides, fast stopping and quick seamless transitions in changing directions) and she is the key reason why he's improved. No matter what skating level a player is at, Cathy makes you better.
Now because of Cathy's phenomenal instruction, he can minimize the energy he exerts while maximizing his speed in hockey games. Through taking lessons with Cathy, Alex's skating has become so cohesively natural and instinctual that he doesn't have to think about what he wants his feet to do in a hockey game, he just does it.
During a 2013 CAHA game weekend, the Head High School Coach of a prestigious college prep school back east was scouting players. He told Alex, "Your skating sets you apart from everyone else on the ice. I want you to play for my team next year." Alex wouldn't have had this opportunity and other opportunities that have come up in hockey if it wasn't for Cathy. 2015 Update: Alex is playing in the USPHL Elite Division for the Boston Junior Bruins.
We truly appreciate all the expert tips and techniques Cathy has given Alex on how he can skate his best. Thank you, Cathy!"

"My daughter, Angelina, attended a hockey camp in British Columbia this summer. They were working on skating drills the whole first session, many of them very similar to stuff you do with her. About 1/3 of the way through, the coach stopped the drill they were doing and called her out to the front of the group. He proceeded to use her as an example of what they should be doing, breaking down her movements and describing to the rest of the group why what she was doing was right and that they should be doing the same thing. He continued to use her as his example pretty much for the rest of the session."

"Our son Sahil, who will play Pee Wee AA Hockey in CAHA next Season, has been taking private lessons and power skating clinics with Cathy Andrade for about three years. This continuous training with Cathy has made Sahil a proficient and skillful youth hockey player that he is today. Sahil has been playing in some very competitive tournaments across North America and always receives positive recognition. Sahil recently accomplished a milestone as a 2002 birth year player during the Brick Super Novice 2012 tournament where he represented California’02 team and was also awarded a Game Star trophy.
Cathy puts a major emphasis on proper skating techniques, and her drills are designed to help Sahil apply those techniques in game-like situations. Cathy’s attention to details during lessons makes a huge difference because she wants players to learn it the right way. Cathy keeps challenging Sahil to achieve his full potential on the ice. Cathy has this unique ability to tailor her teaching style for each individual skater, even in a group setting for while working with a team or during special clinics. She has a gift of demonstrating the technical aspects of proper skating form and combining those skills towards each player’s own needs. Skating lessons with Cathy have helped improve Sahil’s skating timing and rhythm, stride length, edge-work, cross-over, etc. Cathy has a knack to observe each player’s individual skating style and develop a targeted approach that makes learning fun and effective.
Sahil loves being on the ice with Cathy, and he has become a better skater and all-around hockey player as a result. Being hockey parents for the past about 6+ years, we have “understood” and “appreciate” the importance of proper skating technique for hockey and we can vouch that there is no better technical and power skating coach than Cathy in our region.
Also, Cathy’s dedication and enthusiasm is unparallel that she passes onto her students as well. We would highly recommend Cathy Andrade for any player who wants to skate to his / her full potential and thus advance in the game of hockey. As parents, we are so “lucky” to have Cathy, a highly accomplished hockey skating coach working and mentoring our son, Sahil!!!"

2015 Key Acquisitions:
Sahil Panwar F (From San Jose Sharks) He’s born in January of 2002. This is most definitely the best 02′ w have seen play. Not just in California but, even back east and in Canada. He’s got great size at 5’9″ and he’s an amazingly smooth skater and stick handler. He’s very, very polished and smooth.
We expect this kid to be a first round pick in the 2017 WHL draft. His shot is hard, his hands are soft, and he’s simply fun to watch. His strides are long
and smooth and he’s very close to Price with this top end speed. His skating reminds of Scott Neidermayer(effortless). The only real knocks we have on him is he tries to take on multiple defensemen when other players are open and I still need to see more games of him now that he’s checking. He doesn’t seem to like contact although he’s not scared of it either. This kid has a ton of potential and is already a top 4 forward on the 2001 Jr. Kings team.

"We would like to thank you for all you’ve done to make Leila an excellent skater. She just received her end of the year evaluation and her skating and edge work received the highest marks. Her coach at NAHA, who has seen hundreds if not thousands of OLYMPIC/DIVISION 1 players over the years, says 'Her skating ability and feet are some of the best I have ever seen. Edge work is amazing.' Thanks again, we think you are amazing!"
- Vince Kilduff
2015 update- Leila was part of the North American Hockey Academy in Stowe, VT. in 2013 and she is now currently attending Minnesota State University, playing on the woman’s D1 hockey team and taking Kinesiology.

"Cathy has been working with my son, Louie for over 5 years, from San Jose PeeWee AAA to LA Selects Bantam AAA, to Taft prep school and most recently, after working with Cathy this summer, Louie left to play Juniors with the Boston Bandits in the EJHL. Louie loves working with Cathy and as he has gotten older, he has realized more and more that skating is the most important skill for him as a hockey player. The refrain of all of his coaches has been simply stated “If you can skate, the skills will follow.” Cathy has an eagle eye as to where Louie is every time he comes home in terms of his physical development and his skating. She is supportive, yet pushes him to to go beyond his perceived limits. She knows what the skating expectations are at every level and she makes sure when he leaves home for a new level and challenge, he’s confident and ready in his skates. In Louie’s words, “Cathy is the constant. No matter where I go, Cathy makes sure I’m skating at or beyond the level I’m playing."

"Cathy created an individualized program for Soren to improve his skating techniques in the areas that would benefit his game most. Cathy’s coaching has helped him to significantly improve his game and advance early. She has been a big part of his success as a hockey player. Cathy taught Soren for 9 years. He played in the 18 AA League at 13 years old and at 14 years old, he joined the Jr. Sharks Midget AAA team. Per EHK Showcase in Chicago write up- Soren Jonzzon is one of the country’s elite. Jonzzon distributes the puck well and made those around him better players. He read developing plays very well and positioned himself well. He still had an extra gear."
- B. Jonzzon, Parent and 10 year client.
Soren has played for the USHL teams Tri-City Storm and the Youngstown Phantoms.

Eileen Castagna, Parent, Former CAHA President
“We have three sons who have trained with Cathy the past ten years. The benefits of her coaching are seen every time they step on the ice. Cathy focuses on every component of their skating and accomplishes more in a 20 minute lesson than other programs do in an hour.”
- Eileen Castagna, Parent, CAHA President 2001-2003
Joe Licolli, Past President, Jr. Sharks Tier Hockey
“Cathy has been a tremendous addition to the development of both my son’s skating. They both have been playing at the fast paced Tier level for a few years and having the skills needed to skate at that level are a must. Her individual lessons and clinics are a MUST in our family’s hockey planning. Simply put, she is a real pro at what she does and her instruction and attention to details is unsurpassed.”

Dave Paulides, Parent of NCAA player and Client since 2009
“I was at a USA Hockey National conference when I heard a division one college coach state “If you can’t get to the puck first you won’t be a dominant player on the ice”. I remember coming back to San Jose and seeing Cathy giving power skating lessons and knew this was a key to a players long term success, that was 10 years ago. Ben (17) and Nicole (14) have been long time students of Cathy and it’s reaped huge rewards. Nicole is a two time California select player and plays AAA girls hockey. Ben was selected in the 2009 USHL draft (Youngstown Phantoms), placed on the protected list for the WHL Lethbridge Hurricanes and made the Westside Warriors BCHL team, all directly related to the skating skills he learned through Cathy’s innovative and progressive teaching methods. I have personally heard top scouts state that Ben is one of the best skating defenseman they’ve seen at the 91′ birth year, this is all thanks to Cathy Andrade!”
“2011 update: Ben just accepted a four year scholarship offer with Miami University for next fall. Miami University Hockey is ranked #7 of 50+ NCAA division one ice hockey programs. “Cathy’s years of patient and persistent training has paid off in huge dividends. I’m convinced that Ben would’ve never reached this level without her. The skills Cathy teaches are critical to hockey success; we are lucky to have her as a coach.”
